Now that the REDUXA R2 video is live, we wanted to open things up here and hear your thoughts. The response to the YouTube video has far exceeded our expectations, which is so cool to see!
This video is the first proper look at what we’ve been building - why it exists, the decisions we made along the way, and where the prototype is right now. It’s close to final, but there are still a few areas we’re actively thinking about before finalising.
A couple of things we’d genuinely love input on:
• The manual calibration system — is this something you’d use in practice?
• EF vs PL — which mount would you personally go for, and why?
• Are there any real-world use cases or edge cases you think we should be testing before launch?
We’re getting a lot of comments asking for full coverage specs for each camera. This is something we’ll release in the coming weeks.
If you’ve watched the video, let us know what stood out to you most, or if there’s anything you’d like us to dive deeper into next. This space is where we’ll be sharing updates and test results as we move toward launch - so your feedback here really does matter!
Check out the video latest below if haven’t already!
Hey Sam, would be great to see test footage of how the speedbooster performs with fast lenses aperture T/1.2. I do have a very specific question: would the REDUXA R2 work with Canon FD’s converted to EF?
Hey @MatPal !
Yes absolutely. We’ll be releasing lots of test footage in January, as well as full coverage specifications for each camera.
I’m not sure re Canon question, I’m sure @David could jump in on that.
Thanks,
Sam
Hey Mat, sorry for the delay! Hope you’re having a great Christmas
The Canon FD lenses you’ve had converted to EF should work without any issues.
In most conversions, the Auto Aperture Lever & Aperture Signal Lever is removed. But If they haven’t been, it will most likely block fitment with the Redux R2.
As long as it was removed during the EF conversion, you’re absolutely fine.
Also Infinity focus on some FD to EF conversions can also be a touch off, so if needed you can fine-tune the back focus for perfect infinity calibration, using the Focal Shift feature.
Thank you for your reply. All sounds really promising. I’m familiar with infinity calibration of FD, EF, LPL and PL glass. However the Focal Shift feature will definitely come handy. Can’t wait to see some test footage on Helium at 8K FF. Cheers!
Hey @mrg87000 ! No worries, thanks for your kind words. Sadly it won’t on RED Raven. The RED Raven has a fixed EF mount built into the body (so not interchangeable)
